For the Week of April 27th to May 1st

*Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Good morning Grade Threes. I hope everyone had a great weekend. Eight more weeks of school before summer holidays. This week instead of connecting with you by phone, I would like to do a video call. At your designated time, I will e-mail you a link from Google Meet, and then you click on the link and follow the prompts. Hopefully it will work.

Here is the Chapel video Mrs. Caswell, Mrs. Schlitt and Mrs. Dekoff  created for you this week:

Here is what I would like you to work on for this week.

**Memorize/ Review Scripture Memory for the month of April, Hebrews 11:6 (NIV).

Monday and Tuesday:

Spelling:

  1. Practice/Review Phonograms.
  2. Practice spelling list words P1.
  3. Go to the Spelling City web site and do one game or activity with the P1 list words.

 Reading:

  1. Silently read a story book from your home selection, for 20 minutes. Not a comic book. Or choose a book from Epic Kids or Raz-kids. You must have a complete story read by Tuesday evening. Perhaps you started one on Saturday and can finish it by Tuesday.

As you read or listen to the story, think about the following:

Who are the main characters in the story?

What is the setting of the story?

What is the problem in the story?

How is the problem solved?

 Math:

  • Memorize the skip counts by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11.
  • Monday will be a Math Test. Go to the Math-U-See Test Booklet and do Test 14, only.

*Remember to show your work for the word problems and give the unit measurements with your answer where needed, (for example: cm., km., m., ft., etc.).

*Remember your Mom, Dad, Auntie or Grandparent must mark your test and put the score at the top of the first page of the test.

  • Do your Test 14 corrections. If you get a question wrong, it should be marked with an X. When you correct your answer to that question then a C is put on the question number to show that you have done the correction correctly. We only learn from our mistakes.
  • Tuesday will be a Math handout on 2 Digit Subtraction with Regrouping.
  • Print it out and do it. Or copy the questions neatly onto lined paper and do them.
  • An adult needs to mark it and put the score at the top of the handout.
  • Do your corrections and have an adult check them over. If they are correct, then a C needs to be put on the questions’ number so that I can tell if it has been corrected.

2 Digit Subtraction with Regrouping handout:

click on the above highlighted title to the subtraction handout and drop down box, to see it.

Afternoon:

-Go outside and have some fun! If you didn’t get everything done today that is okay. Work on it tomorrow. Play tag, look for bugs, or look at all the pretty flowers. Play a game of soccer with your siblings or shoot some hoops. Bounce a ball and create your own game.

Wednesday and Thursday:

Spelling:

  1. Practice/Review Phonograms.
  2. Practice spelling list words P1.
  3. Go to the Spelling City web site and do one game or activity with the P1 list words.

Reading and Writing:

Now that you have finished reading your story book, you are going to do some writing. It has been awhile since you have used your writing muscles so let’s review some important rules and expectation for writing.

    1. Get a sheet of lined paper.
    2. On the very top line, put your name to the left hand side and your date to the right hand side of that line. Print neatly.
    3. On the second line down, near the margin, print the title to the storybook which you have just finished reading.
  • Put the number 1 in the margin and answer the first question with a full sentence.
  • Now skip a line from your answer and put number 2 in the margin. Answer the next question with a full sentence. Then continue like you did for numbers 1 and 2.
  • Print neatly. Remember sentences start with a capital letter and end with a period.
  • An adult needs to check over your work with an undistracted view.

*Parents please check spelling and punctuation. If the sentence rambles on help your child with the sentence structure.

  1. Please do your writing corrections and have an adult check it over again. No tears. Remember we learn from our mistakes.

Here are the Reading questions to answer in full sentences:

  • Who are the main characters in the story?
  • Write two things about each main character.
  • What is the setting of the story?
  • What is the problem in the story?
  • How is the problem solved?
  • What do you like about this story?
  • What is your favorite part, and explain why?
  • Do you think this author is a Christian author, why or why not? (Hint: What clues are in the story to suggest that this author might be a Christian writer?)

Math:

  1. Memorize the skip counts by 2 to 11.
  2. Practice the multiplication tables from 2 to 11.
  3. Any Math to finish from Monday and Tuesday?

Afternoon:

-Go outside and have some fun!

Friday, the last day to get things done.

This is a Pro-D Day for the teachers, but you still need to have your assignments completed and submitted to me by 3pm today.

 Spelling:

  1. Practice spelling list P1 once more.
  2. Take the test. Your parents or adult need to dictate the words to you out of order.

**Remember:

  • Neat work counts.
  • Use lined paper, if you have it.
  • Name to the left on the top line, proper date to the right on the top line.
  • Title: Spelling Test P1, centered on the second line.
  • Number your page 1 to 20.

**Parents please mark the spelling test and put a score at the top of the page. Then submit it to me.

 Reading and Writing:

    1. Have you finished answering your storybook Reading questions? If not, do so. They are due today.
    2. Do your punctuation, spelling and sentence structure corrections.
    3. Ask your parents or Auntie or Grandparent to check over your corrections.
    4. Check it over yourself. Does it look neat? Did you do your best printing? Did you print on the given lines or are your words floating? Is there proper spacing between your words?
  • Now submit it to me.

             5. Silently read a story book or a free read book for 20 minutes.

Math:

  1. Have you finished your Math Test 14 and your 2 Digit Subtraction with Regrouping handout?
  • Then submit it to me.

Congratulations you have finished the assignments for this week!

Go and have some fun outside.

Have a great weekend.
