February 17- 21

Highlights of Last Week:

-Thursday, was our final ice skating field trip to the Prospera Centre. Thank you for coming to help tie skates and watch the children skate. It is always a lot of fun. Friday was Valentine Colours Day and Love Guatemala Day. The Primary students had fun giving out cards, treats and doing fun activities in regard to Valentine’s Day.

Family Day:

-Monday, February 17th, is Family Day. I hope everyone may be able to take some time to enjoy this day with their family.

Math Mayhem:

On Tuesday, February 18th, Mrs. Bartel’s Math classes will present a large variety of Math games and manipulatives. Come and join us for a fun evening of Math. The fun starts at 6:30pm. All children must be accompanied by a parent.

Vancouver Symphony Field Trip:

Please note we will be leaving the school at 9:15am, February 19th, for the Vancouver Symphony, not 9:30am as indicated on the field trip letter. For the parents who are coming on this field trip, please make sure your criminal record check has been updated or recently completed.

Guatemala Fundraiser:

-Thank you for donating boxes of crayons for the Guatemala Mission’s trip. You are amazing parents!

February 10- 14

Highlights of Last Week:

-In Chapel, on Tuesday, Maeva, Beth, Jada and Sofia were recognized and received a Certificate of Merit. Also, Mrs. Folkerst did a presentation on “Bullying”. Thursday, in our class, was desk change.

*Valentine’s Day:

-February 14th is Valentine’s Day. The children may wear their play clothes with Red, White and Pink colours. If your child would like to give out Valentine cards or treats on that day, please make sure there is one for each student in our class so no one will feel left out. There are a total of 24 students in our class. I have sent home a class list on Friday. Please check your child’s planner pocket.

Vancouver Symphony Field Trip:

Guatemala Fundraiser:

-Some of the High School students will be participating in a mission’s trip to Guatemala. Each Elementary class is responsible to donate specific items for the children in the village of Las Pavas. Our class has been asked to donate packages of crayons. If this is possible for you as a family to donate a box or more of Crayola crayons, that would be great. A box of 24 crayons would be an ideal size. Please send them with your child to school. I will have a box to collect them.

There will be a spelling list this week. Our spelling list is N8. The test will be on Friday. Please encourage your child to practice a little every day after school. Try doing 5 on Monday, 10 on Tuesday, 15 on Wednesday and all 20 on Thursday. That way it does not become over whelming.

Chilliwack Gymnastic Club Field Trip

February 3- 7

Highlights of Last Week:

-Tuesday was Pajama Day, and the children had the opportunity to wear their PJs to school. On Friday, the Grade Three students went to the Chilliwack Gymnastic Club and had a great time learning new gymnastic skills. Also, Friday was the last day of January! Now we are closer to Spring! Hurray for Spring!

Report Cards:

-Report Cards went home with your child on Friday. If your child was absent on Friday, they will be bringing their Report Card home on Monday.

Vancouver Symphony Field Trip:

-The Field Trip letters of permission will be going home with the Grade 3 students on Monday. If you would like to join us on this field trip please see me with the payment of $10.50 for an adult ticket. There are only 5 parent openings for each Grade 3 class. It will be “first come, first served” and one parent per family. You must let me know and pay for your ticket at the same time. I will not be holding spots on the list. Also, this is not a shopping trip. We are simply going to hear the Vancouver Symphony and coming back. All parents coming on this field trip will be expected to help the teachers with the supervision of the students.

January 27- 31

Highlights of Last Week:

-Friday, was Highroad Knight Day and the students had the opportunity to wear their Highroad T-shirt and hoodie. Also the Grade Three students went to the Chilliwack Gymnastic Club for a one hour session. They had a great time!

Pajama Day:

Tuesday, January 28th is Pajama Day. The children may come to school in their P.Js. If they choose not to wear their pajamas to school then they will need to wear their school uniform.

Bake Sale Fundraiser:

On Tuesday, January 21st, Mrs. Goosen & Mrs. Riley’s Grade 5 class hosted a bake sale in the school lobby. They raised $520! Thank you, parents for supporting this fundraiser by giving your children the money to purchase the baked goods.

Field Trip:

-On Friday, January 31st we will be going to the Chilliwack Gym Club, once again. The children may wear their play clothes for that day. The weather will be fairly cold, so pants would probably be best.

January 20- 24

Highlights of Last Week:

-Wow, four snow days! I really did not care for the extreme cold temperatures. Wind chill -20C and -21C is too cold for me.

Annoucement:

-Please note that Monday, January 20th will be a full day of school. It will not be a Pro-D ½ Day as planned because of the four snow days last week.

Bake Sale Date Change:

Highlights:

-We had a great start to the New Year with some fun days such as Cozy Casual Day on Thursday, and Knight Day on Friday. Also it snowed on Friday, all day! The children were very excited to play in the snow.

Highlights:

-Welcome back! Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great Christmas break and a good start to the New Year. Wow, 2020! Unbelievable!

Chilliwack Gymnastic Club Field Trip:

-We will be going to the Chilliwack Gymnastic Club on January 24th and 31st. This will be an extension of our P.E. program in gymnastics. A field trip letter of permission will be sent home with your child.

Our Field Trip to the Chilliwack Museum for the Victorian Christmas Workshop

December 16- 20

Highlights:

-Nine more days until Christmas, and four more days until Christmas Break. Wow! The Elementary students are practicing for their Christmas Concerts.

Primary Christmas Concert:

-For the Primary Christmas Concert, the Grade 3 students will need to come in their school uniform. The two students who are the narrators will need to wear their “Sunday Best”. The four boys who will be doing a rap need to bring a pair of sunglasses and a head band. The students playing the part of Mary and Joseph will be given a costume. Our Christmas Concert is on Thursday, December 19th at 1pm. Please come and join us. The students will be dismissed after the concert. They will be waiting in their classroom for parental pickup.

Salvation Army Annual Food Drive:

-The Salvation Army Food Drive will end this Wednesday, Dec. 18th. Thank you for your donations.

-The Grade 3A class will be going to the Chilliwack Museum on Monday, December 16th for the Christmas workshop. The students will be expected to wear their school uniform for this field trip.

Highlights:

-Three students from our class were recognized during Tuesday’s chapel. Kesler, Ryker and Jackson received a Certificate of Merit. Well done, boys!

Salvation Army Annual Food Drive:

-It is time again for the Salvation Army Food Drive. It started Monday, November 25th and will end Wednesday, Dec. 18th. Your help is needed for food donations. The Grade 3A class is teamed up with the Grade 6A class and we would like to bring in as many cans of “canned lunch” as possible. This would include pork and beans, alphagetti, canned stew, hearty soups, etc. Please do not send Mr. Noodle packages as they tend to easily break up in the food drive barrels and storage boxes. Please make sure the food you donate has not gone past the expire date.

December 2- 6

Highlights:

-The Salvation Army Food Drive started on Monday. On Wednesday morning, we went skating at the Prospera Centre and we had a lot of fun! On Thursday the Grade 3 students brought in their finished Longhouse models and gave a presentation. They are amazing! The models will be on display above the Grade 3A lockers.
